After graduating from Cornell University, Tandy went on to make significant achievements in the world of architecture. One of his crowning achievements would be that he was the first registered African American architect in the state of New York. He opened his own architectural firm and was the designer of many building in Harlem. He was apart of the era known as the Harlem Renaissance.

 

A comparison with another architect during Tandy's time, would  beFrank Lloyd Wright. While Tandy was one of the more famous black architects of his era, Wright was one of the most famous architects of all time. They both meant a lot to their own repesctive type of architecture Wright's style of organic architecture was viewed as a really American style. It was similar to Tandy's becasue he in a way used an "American" style.
